JANUARY – NEW BEGINNINGS…

by Letty Brown

It’s January 2012!  This is the month when resolutions are plentiful and gym memberships double because of all that good holiday eating.  People are looking forward to what the New Year will bring into their lives, and they are all for the most part hoping for life to be better this year than last.

But those of us who worship the King of Kings know we actually have no control over such concerns.  We know and appreciate the fact that the Lord has total control of our lives, and He has already planned out what happens to us from one day to the next.  That simple knowledge should bring, as the Bible says, a peace that surpasses all understanding into our lives as we contemplate what 2012 will bring.

But there’s no harm in making New Year resolutions that reflect your life in Christ.  Like, reading, studying and meditating more on the Word of God or purchasing a good daily devotional to help keep our minds stayed on Him.  We can strive to give more of ourselves to ministry and evangelizing.  Here’s a biggie:  We can practice extending grace instead of unforgiving, mercy instead of attitude, and Agape Love instead of hatefulness.

This year, the greatest resolution I can make is to purposely give myself away.   I think it would delight my Father if He can use me to make a difference in just one person’s life that ultimately leads them to realize they need a Savior, His Son, Jesus. After all, He IS the Way, the Truth and the Life.

That’s one resolution worth keeping….

Have a HAPPY AND BLESSED NEW YEAR!!!!

Marriage Ministry

 January 8, 2012 – 5:00 pm

Anyone interested in participating in this upcoming Marriage Ministry should plan to attend. Some of the topics discussed at this meeting will be the purpose of this ministry, the schedule and dates of each session and a preview of events that are being planned.   As said before, this ministry is for couples but husbands and/or wives are welcome to attend without their spouses.  This is a very rare opportunity to participate in a setting where concentrating on “I” is okay. The cost for the Love and Respect Workbooks is $25 per couple or $12.50 per workbook.  There will be complimentary refreshments served during the informational meeting and childcare will also be provided.  You may contact Deaconess Letty Brown or Sister Monisha Carter to pay for your workbooks before the meeting. If not, please plan to pay for them at the informational meeting, next Sunday at 5pm here at AMFB.

We are serving a Christmas Eve dinner to the women in transition at the open door shelter.  Our sister church in  Johnstown, PA will be preparing and sending gifts for the ladies as they have done for at least six years now.  If you can prepare a side dish or dessert to serve the ladies that night please see Sister Barbara Boney or just plan to drop off your dish at the shelter by 5pm on Christmas Eve, and it would be wonderful to show the ladies the true spirit of Christmas by having a strong AMFB turnout on Christmas eve if you can stay.

Angel Tree

This Saturday – 10:00 am – Angel Tree Gift Deliveries.

Volunteers please arrive to the Worship Center no later than 9:30 am. Angel Tree is a Prison Fellowship program that connects parents in prison with their children through the delivery of Christmas gifts. In most cases, local church volunteers purchase and deliver gifts and the Gospel to children in the name of their prisoner-parent. Many churches make an annual commitment to this highly rewarding program, and recognize it as a way to care for some of the most overlooked members of our communities. We’re having one practice for the Christmas caroling on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15TH AT 7:00pm here at AMFB……..
